Ronna McDaniel set to remain RNC president

“I am happy to report that I have given my full support and approval to Ronna McDaniel to continue leading the Republican National Committee (RNC). With 72 MILLION votes, we received more votes than any sitting president in US history – and we will win! Trump wrote on Twitter.

McDaniel, 47, is also expected to receive support from GOP congressional leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

Trump and McDaniel met during the 2016 campaign, when she was president of the Michigan GOP. The president chose McDaniel for the RNC post shortly after her election, and she has since become one of his top political advisers.

The 168 members of the RNC are expected to elect the next chair in January, when they meet for their winter meeting.

No RNC presidential candidate has yet emerged, and top Republicans say potential candidates were waiting to see if McDaniel would seek re-election. The list of suspected candidates includes Trump’s informal adviser and Maryland committee member David Bossie, Ohio GOP chairwoman Jane Timken, and Mississippi committee member Henry Barbour, the former nephew of the former RNC President Haley Barbour.
