RIO DE JANEIRO – The future of Rose Namajunas at MMA is uncertain after the loss of her featherweight title by Jessica Andrade on Saturday night at UFC 237.
Namajunas (8-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) suffered a magnificent defeat in the round of 16, thanks to a player from Andrade (19-7 MMA, 10-5 UFC). During her post-fight interview, she made curious statements about the loss. When she went backstage to talk about the post-fight show, she revealed ideas about potentially calling for abandonment.
"Thug Rose" then arrived at the post-fight press conference of UFC 237 and developed his feelings. She did not rule out the possibility of a retreat.
"I just want to do something else in my life now," Namajunas told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at the Youth Arena. "I do not know, we'll see, I'm not going to make a decision right now, I do not know, it's hard to keep having fun with that.
In the Octagon, Namajunas said that losing the title had relieved him. She stated that she felt a little in a hurry to return to competition for UFC 237, despite the fact that she was fired for a period of 13 months as a result of her victory over Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 223 in April 2018.
"I felt a lot of pressure to come back here," Namajunas said. "The last fight that preceded this one was rich in emotions, then juggling with different things. I'm always happy to be here. It was just an honor to challenge myself against Andrade because he's a beast.
Namajunas said that if she quit this sport, she would not regret the course of her career. Although she is only 26 years old, she is already a member of the UFC for nearly five years.
Namajunas has repeatedly shown that she is an emotional fighter with obstacles to overcome before getting into the cage. This was no different at UFC 237. In addition to a tough opponent, she went to enemy territory to fight on Brazilian soil.
Even though she was eliminated, Namajunas defeated Andrade for the first five minutes. She said she still thought she was the top athlete, but potential revenge depends on her helplessness, especially because her winnings from the competition will allow her to achieve her goal of paying for her house.
"I was really whipping her buttocks, there is no doubt about it," said Namajunas. "We'll see if that still interests me, I know I can beat her, I just do not know.
