Although they will look like the AirPods Pro, the AirPods 3 will not have premium features like active noise cancellation and transparency mode. This means that these new headphones will have a different design with some improvements in performance and connectivity, but with few new features.
Apple will likely be promoting a lot of Dolby Atmos with Spatial Audio with this next generation so people can better hear the difference between the new version and the old AirPods.
Battery improvements, along with better microphones, are also key features users expect. With the beta firmware of the AirPods Pro, Apple is testing a new Conversation Boost feature, which could also land in these new headphones.
Launch date and price
The AirPods 3 were due to be unveiled in the spring of 2021, which did not happen. Apple’s reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the launch will take place in the third quarter. Last month, DigiTimes announced that these new headphones are expected to launch alongside the iPhone 13 in September.
In the story, DigiTimes said flexible circuit board shipments have kicked off for next-gen AirPods models, with sources claiming the new AirPods have a “good chance” to debut at the Apple event. September, alongside the new iPhones.
As for the price of AirPods 3, Apple should set them between 150 and 200 dollars. It’s still unclear whether Apple will sell two different versions, one with a wireless charging case and the other with a regular case, or only one with a wireless charging case.
