Rowdy Harrell, former Alabama linebacker and NASCAR pit crew member, dies in Florida car crash

William “Rowdy” Harrell, a NASCAR crew member and former University of Alabama linebacker, died Tuesday in a car crash with his wife Blakely. He was 30 years old.

The accident that killed Harrell and his wife happened in Florida as the two were celebrating their honeymoon after their wedding which took place on Saturday.

The 30-year-old has worked for Hendrick Motorsports for the past eight seasons as a tire carrier, most recently with the No.88 NASCAR Cup Series team with Alex Bowman. He was also a two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion as a pit crew member with JR Motorsports.

Prior to working with NASCAR, Harrell won three national championships with the University of Alabama as a middle linebacker. Greg Ives, Harrell’s crew chief for the past six seasons, made the following statement on the Hendrick Motorsports website.

“Our entire squad is absolutely devastated by the loss of Rowdy and Blakley. They were such a positive, generous and passionate people that couldn’t have been a more perfect game. Rowdy had an energetic and contagious personality. He was the heart and soul. the soul of our team and has always kept us motivated no matter the circumstances. Rowdy shared his love with the people around him and was loved in return. Although he will be sorely missed, his memory will continue to grow. always inspire us. Our prayers are with Rowdy, Blakley and their wonderful family. ”

Bowman and the Crimson Tide football team offered their condolences on Twitter.
