Royal experts slam Diana Spencer’s new film

Royal pundits have criticized Diana Spencer’s new film starring Kristen Stewart, saying it robs the late princess of her “respect and dignity” and was “unnecessarily free”.

Scenes from the film show Diana – who died in a car crash at the age of 36 – bursting into tears in front of her son, Prince William, as she battles her eating disorders and self-harm.

In particularly distressing scenes from the new film, Diana fantasizes about throwing herself down the stairs and choking on a pearl necklace given to her by her husband, Prince Charles.

Other parts of the film detail her bulimia as she vomits and even hallucinates about her own death.

Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, told The Sun of the film: “It’s really cruel to portray her like this. It’s totally unnecessary.

“William and Harry will be very angry and hurt about this. They will find it horrible that their mother is portrayed this way in such a huge movie.

Royal biographer and expert Penny Junor agreed and said: “It’s unnecessarily free. Poor William is all I can say, and let’s leave Diana with a little respect and dignity.

“I know William was there when she was unhappy, but it seems to me the movie is factually incorrect.”

In another scene, William is seen begging his mother to come to dinner after locking herself in her bedroom after harming herself with wire cutters.

William yells, ‘Mom, mom … mom, you said tell yourself if you’re really stupid. You are really stupid.

‘Please mum, we have to sit down before granny. Mom just turn off your mind. Only think about it after dinner for everyone’s sake.

Diana then walks out of the room with makeup running down her cheeks and asks her son if he saw Camilla Parker Bowles at church on Christmas morning.

It comes after royal experts criticized graphic scenes from The Crown last November that depicted Princess Diana’s struggle with bulimia.

In distressing footage, Emma Corrin’s Diana was shown sticking her fingers down her throat to be ill following a heated argument with Prince Charles.

In another, she was seen gorging on desserts before forcing herself to fall ill again in the palace bathroom.

And it didn’t take long for viewers to turn to Twitter to discuss the “heartbreaking” scenes.

“Seeing Diana struggling with bulimia is so sad,” one commented, while a second agreed, “That bulimia scene was so hard to watch.”

Some scenes were so graphic that viewers received an on-screen warning at the start of the three episodes where his bulimia was depicted.

Royal biographers have asked if The Crown could have treated the subject with greater sensitivity.

Writer Ingrid Seward told the Daily Mail: “It was an important thing in her young life, so I think it had to be portrayed somehow.

Spencer’s first trailer came out last month, featuring Kristen’s rendition of the late Royal accent first heard.

“There is eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. But this year things will be very different. Spencer imagines what could have happened during those fateful few days.

The screenplay, written by English screenwriter Steven Knight, who also wrote Peaky Blinders, follows the moments when Diana realizes she must “deviate from a path that brings her in line to one day become queen.”

Director Pablo Larraín explained that the drama will not focus on Diana’s tragic death, but instead will focus on her relationship with her royal husband and the love she has for children, Prince William and Prince Harry. .

The filmmaker said: “We decided to embark on a story about identity and how a woman somehow decides not to be the queen…

“It’s a woman who, during the film’s journey, decides and realizes that she wants to be the woman she was before she met Charles.”

Following the trailer’s release, fans praised Kristen’s performance as the late Royale and asked for the actress to receive an Oscar.

She only utters two words in the short preview, responding, “They don’t,” when told the press knows everything about a scene, but it was clearly enough to drive fans crazy.

They said the American star’s British accent was “correct”, while his mannerisms and characterization of the late princess were also correct.

When news of the film first broke, Twitter was overrun with people questioning Kristen’s cast as Diana.

Pablo was quick to defend her decision to pick the star as Princess of Wales, telling Deadline: “Kristen is one of the greatest actresses around.

“Kristen can be a lot of things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong too, which is what we need.”
