Ruiz Foods Products Inc. recalls bacon-based products for breakfast due to possible foreign body contamination

WASHINGTON, June 14, 2019 – Ruiz Foods Products Inc., a facility in Denison, Texas, recalls approximately 246,514 pounds of frozen, non-ready-to-eat (NRTE) breakfast packaging products containing bacon that may be contaminated with foreign matter , especially small rocks, in the United States The Department of Food Safety and Inspection (FSIS) of the Ministry of Agriculture was announced today.

Frozen packages of eggs, potatoes, bacon and cheese were manufactured on January 17 and 201 and January 18, 2019. The following products may be subject to a recall: [View LabelsĀ (PDF only)]

  • Package of 8 family size movies containing "EL MONTEREY EGG SAUCE LUNCH BREAKS, POTATOES, BACON & CHEESE" with the "Best if Used" expiration dates of 01/17/2020 and 18/01/2020 and lot codes 19017 and 19018.

The products concerned by the recall bear the establishment number "EST. 17523A "on the back of the package. These items have been shipped to retail outlets nationwide.

The problem was discovered on June 14, 2019, when Ruiz Foods informed FSIS of three consumer complaints about foreign materials in the packaging products. The company continues to investigate the source of foreign materials.

The company has received a report stating a potential injury related to the consumption of this product. FSIS has not received any other report of injury or illness resulting from the consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a health care provider.

FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumer freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely performs recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling companies are notifying their customers and that steps are being taken to ensure that the product is no longer available to consumers.
