On Friday night, Ruiz Foods Products Inc, based in Denison, Texas, recalled approximately 246,514 pounds of frozen and non-ready-to-eat (NRTE) breakfast products containing bacon that may be contaminated with foreign materials, particularly small rocks, according to the US Department of Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Frozen packages of eggs, potatoes, bacon and cheese were manufactured on January 17 and 201 and January 18, 2019. The following products may be subject to a recall:

  • Package of 8 family size films containing "EL MONTEREY EGG SAUCE LUNCH BREAKS, POTATOES, BACON & CHEESE" with the "Best if Used" expiry dates of 01/17/2020 and 18/01/2020 and lot codes 19017 and 19018.

The recalled products bear the EST establishment number. 17523A "on the back of the package. These items have been shipped to retail outlets across the country.

The small rocks were discovered on June 14, 2019, when Ruiz Foods informed FSIS of three consumer complaints about foreign materials in the packaged products. The company continues to investigate the source of foreign materials.

The company has received a report stating a potential injury related to the consumption of this product. FSIS has not received any other report of injury or illness resulting from the consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a health care provider.

FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumer freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely performs recall effectiveness checks to ensure that recalling companies are warning customers of the recall and that steps are being taken to ensure that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, retail distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS website.
