Rumor: 2K Sports and WWE relationship have become “seriously strained”

WWE 2K Battlegrounds was released on Nintendo Switch in 2020, so it’s no surprise that the next WWE 2K22 release may be coming to the Nintendo console as well. But, unfortunately, WWE 2K22 has been postponed until March 2022. And, thanks to sources who spoke to Sports Gamers Online, we can now find out why.

According to their sources, “2K Sports and WWE have been going back and forth to push back WWE 2K22 since almost immediately after the match was announced. Most members of WWE wanted the game to come out in its normal Survivor Series window. Those of 2K Sports and Visual Concepts, on the other hand, pushed hard for a delayed launch ”.

2K Sports and WWE are at constant disagreement over various parts of the game. There is an issue with the outdated roster due to 2K “working on digitizing wrestlers and building new character models pretty much from scratch. For wrestlers who were going, or have since been, released from WWE. The poor performance of WWE 2K20 also made it more difficult for 2K Sports to work with WWE. While the latter made profits, they also suffered losses due to the poor launch and poor reception of the game.

Although 2K Sports publishes WWE 2K games, Visual Concepts is the team of developers that makes them now, since THQ closed. Unfortunately, they have become pinched, underfunded and understaffed. The added pressure of working on this game didn’t help at all. And according to Sports Gamers Online sources, working there “just hasn’t been a fun place. The second guess is constantly happening because of a desperation to get it right ”.

So, is there any hope that the “seriously strained” relationship between the two sides will improve in the near future? Sports Gamers Online sources said, “It wouldn’t take as much as people might think. This is how bad it is. But a big game and a response from the fans could make a difference.
