It’s been a while since we’ve been saying that Sony needs to think about overhauling its PlayStation Plus subscription service. Currently, subscribers receive a handful of “free” PS5 and PS4 games each month, supplemented by exclusive discounts on the PlayStation Store and, sometimes, other Sony perks. Playing (most) PlayStation multiplayer games online also requires a PS Plus membership.
It’s not a bad deal for what is roughly the price of a retail video game release per year, but with the growing popularity of subscription services like Xbox Game Pass, its perceived value is often questioned.
An improved PS Plus offering could be on the way, however. According to reliable source Eurogamer, Sony may be considering offering a “more expensive premium PlayStation Plus offer”, which could include some sort of access to Crunchyroll – the popular anime streaming and publishing platform that Sony just acquired for around $ 1 billion.
A more expensive PS Plus option is an interesting proposition, and it’s something that has been discussed on this site even for years. Assuming that can actually happen, we can’t help but wonder what Sony would be willing to put into a sub.
What do you think about this? Would you be tempted by a more expensive PS Plus option? Weigh your subscriptions in the comments section below.
