The Boston Celtics really want to negotiate for Anthony Davis. No, really: it will not be as if they were trying to trade their shares for DeMarcus Cousins … or Jimmy Butler … or Paul George – they are real this time, they promise. No recovery.
In the latest episode of "The Lowe Post," ESPN's Zach Lowe said that Boston's position on Davis trading had not changed, although Rich Davis' agent Rich said. Paul of Klutch Sports, stated that he would not sign if they do:
"All I've heard, and it's very interesting, is that Boston is not scared. Boston is not afraid that Rich Paul will come back in Sports Illustrated and say, "They can trade for him, it will only be for a year." They are not afraid. And I do not see how Boston could get it without the exchange of Tatays (Jayson). Now, if you have to include Tatum and Memphis, which is their only remaining gold token – and by the way, the last gold token they had was the king's choice, and it did not turn out so golden because the kings have become very good. So we never know.
It's great for the Celtics. They should be very proud.
The only problem is that we have not heard exactly what the Celtics are planning to offer to Davis. When ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski was on SportsCenter on Wednesday, he said he did not know if Boston was planning to offer Tatum a package for Davis. At the same time, he said the Lakers were building a set centered on Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Choice # 4.
As things stand, we do not know how the Lakers package compares to Boston because it does not have one yet. Of course, Tatum could theoretically be the best prospect that pelicans can get in an exchange, but there is no guarantee that the Celtics will offer it, especially when everything indicates that Kyrie Irving is skipping the city.
Can Boston put in place a competitive bid for Davis? Absolutely, but they can not compete if they are not in the game. If the Lakers are lucky, things will not change, and we can all read how the Celtics tried to barter against Davis this summer.
