So we hear that the Philadelphia Eagles “should trade Carson Wentz in the next few days.” But what exactly will the birds bring him?
It is not entirely clear yet. There are, however, rumors of what a possible Wentz commercial package might look like. And more particularly with regard to the Chicago Bears.
On Saturday morning, Windy City Gridiron contributor Brandon Robinson said the Eagles got something like a 2021 first-round pick (No.20), a 2022 third-round pick and Nick Foles in exchange for Wentz.
On Saturday night, 97.5’s Natalie Egenolf of The Fanatic shared what she was hearing:
Then Howard Eskin stepped in with the following:
Rumors everywhere tonight #Eagles QB Carson Wentz trade. Here is what I am told. Wentz and a draft pick for #Bear for the first pick in the draft, quarterback Nick Foles and RB Tarik Cohen who just got injured at the ACL but should be ready in September. @SportsRadioWIP

But Tarik Cohen seemed to deny he was going anywhere!
Let me clear that up very quickly. Just hung up with my HC and GM, bear fans we’ve locked up don’t worry. people say anything these days man.

So who knows what is really going on here.
For the sake of discussion, let’s say the Eagles are swap Wentz and a pick for Cohen, Nick Foles and a first-round pick. What do you think of this offer?
The first thought that comes to my mind is: what is this pick that the Eagles are sending back to Chicago? I saw something about how Philly might attribute their 2021 second-round selection to the Bears, dropping the Eagles from No.37 to No.20. If true, that value is only worth the equivalent of ‘a late second round. to choose. Not an ideal return for Wentz. But, hey, that might not be the scenario the Eagles would find themselves in. Maybe they won’t have to return such a high choice.
Cohen is an interesting inclusion in a package for Wentz. The trade causes the Bears, who are already above the $ 10 million cap, to lose $ 2 million. From the Eagles’ perspective, it’s not hard to see why they’d be interested in him. Cohen is probably the player the Eagles wanted when they had to settle for Donnel Pumphrey in the 2017 NFL Draft. The 25-year-old is shaping up as an offensive player in the Darren Sproles mold and he can fire punts as well. . Having worked with Nyheim Hines on the Colts, Nick Sirianni probably wouldn’t mind having a similar player in that mold in Philly and Cohen does the trick. He signed until 2023.
We’ve already written some thoughts on a potential Foles comeback on Saturday. In short, there are reasons why reacquiring it makes and doesn’t make sense.
Again, it’s not as if these terms have been officially finalized just yet. And maybe it’s not even the Bears who end up trading for Wentz, although I think it’s likely. I guess it won’t be long before we see what’s going on. In the meantime, we still have to talk about this could take place.
