The San Francisco 49ers inquired about Odell Beckham Jr. before the New York Giants traded wide-star at the Cleveland Brown earlier this week, according to Jay Glazer of The Athletic.

Glazer noted that New York wanted San Francisco to include the second choice in this year's project in a commercial package, but the 49ers are not interested.

Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports 1 said Tuesday that San Francisco was one of Beckham's favorite destinations:

The giants in the end sent Beckham and defenseman Olivier Vernon meet Browns in exchange for right guard Kevin Zeitler, Jabrill Peppers, security member, first round pick in 2019 (17th overall) and third in 2019 (95th overall) ).

The transaction comes less than a year after Beckham signed a record extension of $ 95 million over five years with New York. General Manager of Giants Dave Gettleman repeatedly stated that the team had not signed the receiver to exchange it, but that Brown's offer was sufficient to make him change his mind.

Beckham has played four 1,000-yard campaigns in his first five years in the league – the only exception is a shortened injury in 2017. He has just finished one season in which he collected 77 passes for 1,052 yards and six touchdowns.

In other words, the triple Pro Bowler would have given a well-deserved boost to an outsized corps of 49 people.

Beckham had more catches and receiving yards than San Francisco's two best receivers combined last year despite playing in 12 games. Kendrick Bourne led all Niners yards with 42 assists and 487 yards in 2018, while rookie Dante Pettis recorded 27 receptions for 467 yards.
