Runaway golf cart leaves US Open spectators seriously injured

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The USGA and California Highway Patrol are investigating a golf car collision that occurred today.

That's what happened on the 16th Pebble Beach Gold Links fairway during the second round of the 2019 Open American Championship.

According to officials, a salesman made a delivery with the golf cart loaded with cardboard. The seller parked and walked away from the golf cart when the body on the front seat fell to the ground and landed on the accelerator.

"Fortunately, there was a little bit of a comeback, so it went in circles rather than going straight. He crossed the ropes at one place. He hit a guy, or he jumped out of the way, but he went down, "said Soren Jacobsen, who witnessed the incident.

The unoccupied golf cart started moving forward and was out of control. The seller with four spectators were injured. The seller has removed the box from the accelerator and the cart has completely stopped.

"Someone jumped in a bit, it looks like they've maybe jumped out of the hood a bit, because they ended up on the floor, but they managed to knock the box down." of the accelerator, which prevented him from crossing more people, "Jacobsen said.

The ages of everyone involved range from 25 to 82 years old. Two spectators were transported to the Monterey Peninsula Community Hospital for their injuries.

CHP mentions two people with "serious injuries" – an 82-year-old man from Modesto and a 25-year-old man from Highland Village, Texas.

Other injuries:

– 58 year old man from Modesto

– 58 year old woman from Carmel

– 43 year old man from West Jordan, Utah.

The California Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation.
