A representative for the Democratic state of Texas accused Governor Greg Abbott of playing “political games” with state face mask warrants – and has been widely criticized on social media for being one of the Unmasked lawmakers who fled to Washington, DC

Families deserve clear guidelines and policies to keep students, teachers and staff safe,” the representative tweeted on Wednesday. Howard’s tweet was accompanied by an article from the editorial board of the Austin American-statesman calling on Abbott to lift its ban on school districts to impose mask warrants.

In another tweet, Howard wrote, “We need to follow the science here. Texas needs to change course and allow the wearing of universal masks to prevent the spread of the highly contagious delta variant, especially since children under the age of 12 cannot yet get away. get vaccinated. “

Twitter users were quick to point out that Howard was one of many Democrats who were photographed without a mask on a private jet as they fled Texas to avoid voting on an election integrity bill.

Howard’s Republican colleague, Texas State Representative Briscoe Cain, suggested Howard’s tweets were an attempt to distract from their widely planned flight to the nation’s capital.

“As their trip to the DC swamps didn’t go ‘viral’ as they had hoped, these lawmakers are trying to distract from the fact that they have abandoned Texas and their constituents,” Cain told Fox News.

Howard, along with dozens of his fellow Democrats, blocked Republicans from passing a vote integrity bill last week and traveled to Washington, DC to meet with Democrats and hold press conferences labeling attempts to strengthen electoral integrity as racist.

In Washington, DC, at least six of the Democrats contracted the coronavirus despite being vaccinated, and officials of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Joe Biden tested positive for the virus after meeting with Texas lawmakers.

Howard’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News.
