As the Houston Rockets head for a future that may not include some of the biggest names on their roster, they have reportedly discussed a potential trade involving Russell Westbrook and the Washington Wizards.
Tuesday, Shams Charania from The Athletic and Stadium reports that Houston has spoken with the Wizards about Westbrook’s trade for John Wall. However, Charania noted that there is “no traction yet” because Houston wants more in return.
To say that Houston has been busy this offseason would be an understatement.
He’s already parted ways with general manager Daryl Morey and head coach Mike D’Antoni, and ESPN. Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday that he traded Robert Covington to the Portland Trail Blazers for Trevor Ariza, the 16th pick in Wednesday’s NBA Draft and a protected first-round pick in 2021.
Wojnarowski also reported that James Harden turned down a two-year, $ 103 million contract extension because “he was particularly focused on a trade with the Brooklyn Nets.”
As for Westbrook, Jonathan figs of Houston Chronicle said he wanted to go somewhere else so that he could “be himself” on the floor.
A trade involving Westbrook and Wall would be a blockbuster given that the former won the 2016-17 MVP and is a nine-time All-NBA and nine-time All-Star selection, while the latter is a five-time All-Star with a All-NBA selection.
However, there are issues with each.
Wall has not appeared in a game since December 2018 due to injuries and is of over $ 132 million over the next three seasons if he exercises his 2022-23 player option. Westbrook struggles to shoot from the outside and he’s right to worry about how his aggressive playing style will age now that he’s 32.

There are a number of hurdles to overcome if this trade is to take place, but both sides have at least apparently discussed this during the offseason.
