The five-team trade involving the Lakers, Wizards, Nets, Spurs, and Pacers, titled by Russell westbrook (in Los Angeles) and Spencer dinwiddie (in Washington) is now official, according to press releases from several clubs.

The deal began as a two-team trade sending Westbrook from the Wizards to the Lakers, a deal that was struck near the start of the draft last Thursday. Later that night, the Wizards and Pacers struck a deal sending Aaron vacation which would be integrated into the Westbrook blockbuster.

Subsequently, during free agency, the Wizards and Dinwiddie wanted to find a way to get the point guard to DC and ultimately convinced the Nets to agree to a signing and trade. Spurs entered the mix late to adjust to falling Washington wages Chandler Hutchison.

Here’s the full breakdown of the deal, based on reports to date:

  • To the Lakers:
    • Russell westbrook (wizards)
    • The 2023 Bulls second-round pick (of Wizards)
    • The second-round pick of the Wizards or Grizzlies in 2024 (whichever is less favorable; of Wizards)
    • The Wizards 2028 second-round pick (of Wizards)
  • To wizards:
  • Towards the fillets:
    • 2024 Wizards or Grizzlies second-round pick (whichever is more favorable; from Wizards)
    • The right to swap the Warriors 2025 second-round pick for the Wizards 2025 second-round pick (from Wizards)
    • The rights to Nikola Milutinov (from Spurs)
  • To Spurs:
    • Chandler Hutchison (wizards)
    • Either the Bulls, Lakers, or the Pistons’ 2022 second-round pick (whichever is more favorable; from Wizards)
  • To the Pacers:

The Nets also generated the biggest trade exception of any team in the deal – it will be worth around $ 11.5 million.

While this is a fairly minor decision for Brooklyn, San Antonio and Indiana, the deal will significantly reshape the Lakers and Wizards rosters for the 2021/22 season. Los Angeles consolidated its depth by acquiring a star player who wanted to team up with James lebron and Anthony davis, then filled its roster in free agency.

The Wizards, meanwhile, traded a star for several deep coins and managed to replace their former playmaker with one who will earn less than half of Westbrook’s salary for the next two seasons. The deal should increase the flexibility of the club cap while also strengthening its bench.
