At the start of Monday night’s episode, host Carson Daly revealed that Gallagher, 31, “had to quit the competition.”

Gallagher, who was part of Kelly Clarkson’s squad, made the round of 16 last week, seeking to advance to the top 17. The knockout winner, Taryn Papa, was determined by counting the votes of the three remaining candidates.

So why did Gallagher leave the show? Some people believe it may have something to do with his family, since he previously revealed his mother was hospitalized with the coronavirus. On his Instagram Stories, however, he shot this down.

“Thank you all for your concern for my family,” said Gallagher. “However, everyone is fine, that’s not the cause of what happened tonight on ‘The Voice.’ I haven’t given up on the show. Details are yet to come, I’ll keep you posted. aware. “

He also shared a photo of himself in a tuxedo with “2020 you’re interesting” written in lowercase over it.

“The Voice” did not give a reason for leaving, although there was speculation that the virus may have played a role. “Entertainment Tonight” reported that Gallagher was fired for violating the show’s COVID-19 protocols.

TODAY has contacted “The Voice” to comment on Gallagher’s release.

On Monday, he posted a trio of photos of himself on his Instagram page, appearing to tap into the fact that he was on the competition.

“1,2,3 ….? Which look do you prefer?” he captioned the photos, adding @nbcthevoice and @kellyclarkson, as well as the hashtag #teamkelly.
