In his last 39 consecutive appearances on the mound, reliever Ryan Pressly's EER in Houston has been utterly absurd. It's a series that started on August 15, 2018 against the Rockies (eating shit, Ley), and officially reached the record highs of MLB Friday against the Boston Red Sox. This goalless appearance was sealed thanks to great acrobatics that allowed the final to come out of the eighth round against Rafael Devers.
Until then, Craig Kimbrel had the record of consecutive wins at 38. He broke that record with the Atlanta Braves in 2011 – though, if you ask the Astros broadcast crew, the record is has passed a decade earlier.
Kimbrel won the Rookie of the Year title this season (2011) and finished ninth in the Cy Young Award.
As for what Pressly did on Friday, it's not so much the fact that it's an impressive athleticism from a pitcher who made this game so great. The splendor comes from the fact that he did not have to do so much effort for the ball – there was no one on the base and he had already got two outs – but he l? did it anyway. I guess when you're lucky enough to be the only record holder in a sport that's more than a century old, doing it in style is really the only choice.
