Ryan Reynolds said he offered a Deadpool and Bambi crossover to Disney, who turned it down.
“I wanted to do a short film of Deadpool interviewing the hunter who killed Bambi’s mother,” Reynolds told IGN. “But the bottom line is that Deadpool is actually just a huge fan. He’s not questioning – he just wants to know how he could be the most hated Disney character in Disney history… and of course Disney was like, ‘Well I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.’ “
It’s no surprise that Disney turned down a crossover with the character that devastated kids (and adults) all over Bambi, but, after the pitch failed, Reynolds came back with the idea of the Deadpool and Korg crossover idea. to promote his next film Free Guy.
“Then we got back to them – we wrote the Deadpool-Korg article… and we sent it to them, and they said ‘yes!’,” Reynolds said. “So my next call was to Taika [Waititi] and Taika was in it. He’s also in Free Guy so it wasn’t that difficult … Taika is a real genius so I was delighted to collaborate with him as that kind of character. “
The crossover video marks Deadpool’s entry into the MCU. A third Deadpool movie is currently in the works, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said it will be rated R. It’s probably a good thing the Merc with a Mouth didn’t have a chance to. get into Disney verse, as we can only imagine the kind of chaos it would bring to the studio’s catalog of beloved animated films …
Free Guy, meanwhile, follows Reynolds’ main character Guy, who finds out he’s an NPC in a video game and is set to become a hero. The film is releasing this August 13 – until then, check out our guide to all of the film’s upcoming release dates in 2021.
