Ryan Reynolds says there’s a “70% chance” that Deadpool 3 will start production next year.
Speaking to Collider on a press day for the star’s upcoming film, Free Guy, Reynolds opened up about the rude superhero’s third outing. Reluctant to set a start date for production, he said, “The percentage of luck? I do not know. I couldn’t assign a percentage to that. I would say it’s 50/50 maybe? really actively developing it and getting it in pretty good shape. What month in hell? August ? Oh, next year? Probably damn good. I would say 70%.
Elsewhere in the interview, Reynolds provided an update on the film’s writing process. “It’s something that’s just a daily process. Writing is a bit like that, it takes time to do it and go away, and I’m working with the Molyneux on that, it’s been great. They’re incredibly talented and so, so smart. ”Bob’s Burger and Great North writers Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin and Wendy Molyneux were recruited as writers for Deadpool 3 in November.
The actor is full of praise for the Molyneux sisters, who seem to have integrated their new project well: “They understand this world so much and know how to zigzag when everyone expects a zag, so it was a lot of fun. ” Deadpool’s unique styling was a welcome addition to the superhero genre, but it will be interesting to see how the writing team seeks to improve that to make Deadpool 3 feel fresh this time around.
The third installment will be particularly interesting given that Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that Deadpool 3 will be part of the MCU – which may provide some unique opportunities for the cameo characters in the film. Despite the lack of R-rated films in the franchise, Feige has confirmed that Marvel Studios will not seek to curb Deadpool’s signature style. “It will be rated R and we are currently working on a script,” Feige said in January.
In other Deadpool news, the Merc with a Mouth has recently been at the center of the marketing world. The superhero featured in his “first” MCU crossover as he sat down with Korg from Thor: Ragnarok to promote Reynolds’ latest film, Free Guy. Turns out, Reynolds’ marketing arguments didn’t end there. IGN recently reported that the actor pitched the idea for a Deadpool and Bambi crossover at Disney in which the superhero sat down to interview the hunter who killed Bambi’s mother. Spoilers, it’s not what you think – or indeed, it might be exactly what you think.
