Ryder Cup Match Previews: Saturday Morning Quartets

[ad_1]

It was a crazy day in Wisconsin, a day when the home side gained momentum with a big lead. The United States leads the Ryder Cup, 6-2, after opening day. According to Justin Ray of the Twenty First Group, this is the biggest US lead after opening day since 1977, with the last Ryder Cup before mainland Europe added to the mix. Elias Sports Office said this was the seventh time a team has scored six or more points on Day 1. The only time a team has not won the Ryder Cup after scoring six or more points day 1 was 1999 at The Country. Club, where the United States made a historic comeback.

However, there are still 20 points. Can the United States continue its momentum? Can Europe make its way? We will have to wait and see.

The United States has stayed true to what has been proven, deploying the same four teams that went 3-1 in Friday’s Foursomes sessions. “It went so well this morning that I understood why mess everything up and change things at all?” said US captain Steve Stricker. The biggest news on the European side is that Rory McIlroy is missing a session for the first time in his career. He went 0-2 on Friday, both of his games ending after 15 holes.

Until then, let’s check out the duets for Saturday morning’s Foursomes games. The United States won Friday’s Foursomes session, 3-1. Another performance could put the Cup out of reach, but Europe generally excels in this format.

Here are Saturday’s four Foursomes games, with previews below:

8:21 am ET: Dustin Johnson / Collin Morikawa vs. Paul Casey / Tyrrell Hatton
