With high-end processors being scarce, the Ryzen 7 3800X offers a great option for creating a fast but low-cost system – although not the latest and greatest from AMD. In this case, the 3800X offers 8 Zen 2 cores with SMT, for a total of 16 threads.
The base clock speed on the chip is 3.9 GHz, but the chip can turbo as high as 4.5 GHz – and indeed, with most performance-oriented motherboards, it should be able to maintain its turbo frequency indefinitely.
You will need an AMD 400 or 500 series motherboard with an AM4 socket to support this processor.
