Sabrina carpenter sets the record straight.
The 21-year-old singer took to Instagram on Sunday January 24 to share a statement about her new song “Skin”, claiming she had not written a “diss track” on Olivia rodrigo and his new song “Driver’s License”.
Here’s some background information: Fans have come up with the theory that the 17-year-old singer / actress wrote “Driver’s License” about Sabrina and her current boyfriend Joshua Bassett, who is Oliviais co-star in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
Olivia sings in her song, “and you’re probably with that blonde girl, who always made me doubt.”
When Sabrina released her song “Skin”, many fans thought it dispelled Olivia, especially with the lyrics, “Maybe we could pretend then / There is no gravity in the words we write / Maybe you didn’t mean it / Maybe ‘blonde’ was the only rhyme. “
Sabrina now explains why she wrote “Skin”, while specifically addressing Oliviasong of.

“Thanks to everyone who listened to Skin, especially those who opened their minds to what I was trying to convey through the lyrics,” Sabrina start.
“I wasn’t disturbed by a few lines in a (beautiful) song and wrote a diss track about it,” she continued. “I was at a turning point in my life for countless reasons. So I was inspired to do what I usually do to cope, write something that I wish I could have told myself in the past.
“People can only reach you if you give them the power. and a lot of people were trying to reach me ” Sabrina wrote. “The song does not call a single person. some lines deal with a specific situation while others deal with many other experiences that I had in the last year … it also shows that a lot of things have actually passed under my skin … and I’m still learning not to give it to others. a lot of power over my feelings. I know many of you struggle with the same.
“I don’t want this to turn into an endless cycle, so don’t take this as an opportunity to send more hate anyone’s way,” Sabrina concluded. “Much love to you all. thank you for allowing me to grow.
