SACRAMENTO – The Sacramento Zoo bid farewell to one of his beloved giraffes on Tuesday.

Gudrun, fondly nicknamed Goody, has been living at the zoo since 1999.

Goody has drawn national attention over the years for her bespoke shoes that she wore to treat her arthritis and leg conformation issues.

When she got older, Goody received specialized treatment from the Zoo as well as from the UC Davis Veterinary School to help her in her condition.

Goody has recently developed a hoof abscess and, despite the treatment efforts, his condition has not improved.

His condition has significantly diminished and the zoo has made the decision to euthanize it humanely.

"Goody lived up to his name. she was kind, cooperative and intelligent. Goody has allowed us to work with her in an incredible way so she can extend her stay with us and improve her quality of life, "said Zoo Keeper Melissa in a statement. "She was an amazing friend and ideal ambassador for giraffes in the wild."
