Safari Technology Preview 128 released with new tabbed interface

Following the release of macOS Big Sur 11.5, Apple released Safari Technology Preview 128 on Wednesday. This release brings the updated tab interface that was introduced with the third beta of macOS Monterey, which once again changed some design aspects of the new Safari 15.

For those who are not familiar, Safari Technology Preview is an alternate developer-focused version of Apple’s web browser, as it includes beta features that are not yet available in the standard version of Safari. As Apple tested Safari 15 in the beta of macOS Monterey, some features from this release were also added to Safari Technology Preview, including the controversial new design.

While users complained about the new Safari 15 interface, the company changed it again. Now all open tabs are displayed in a separate bar, which is somewhat similar to older versions of Safari prior to macOS Monterey. This is optional, however, and users can switch back to the combo tab bar if they wish.

Safari Technology Preview 128 can be installed on macOS Monterey beta and macOS Big Sur. This means that users running the latest official version of macOS can benefit from the latest changes to Safari without having to install beta versions of the operating system.

The update is available through the Software Update menu in the System Preferences application. If you haven’t installed Safari Technology Preview, it’s available for free from the Apple Developer website.
