Sailors put angels exactly where they don’t want them, they lose 2-1

Despite several golden chances, the Seattle Mariners lost tonight’s game, throwing their chips away like soft balls on the ground, mediocre approaches and shots on the black. The Angels, not content with just wasting another magical season from a generational star, performed well enough to perhaps ruin Seattle’s playoff magical push. Anaheim did it on a brilliant start from young southpaw José Suarez like a runner-up through Seattle training ground. It was a crushing and reckless defeat on the part of the M’s who could and should have won, but missed the extra blow that has been there so many times this season.

Unlike every game in the Oakland Series, Seattle struck first, with a Jarred Kelenic RBI double scoring Abraham Toro thanks to a future relay snail flown over by Juan Lagares and David Fletcher.

Then…. That was it. The two points Anaheim faced against Marco proved to be enough. The M’s were once again punished for performing their light utility in left field, as Dylan Moore unfortunately missed several chances at home plate and of course the double which narrowly slipped out of his glove and scored the Angels’ two points. . Seattle spoiled a starting Luis Torrens triple, two base appearances from JP Crawford and a ninth-inning brace that electrified the sold-out crowd. It was a pure disappointment, no other word for it, for a group of players even less than the beating world, but good enough to be an Angel-beating.

After 24 hours of scrutiny, the Mariners are again at the mercy of others. All that has gone well for them is the humiliation of the Tampa Bay Yankees, putting them at attackable distance if the Rays sweep and Seattle recovers for two. The Red Sox, meanwhile, have to stumble against the Nationals at least once, and Toronto has bounced off those Mr.

It’s a shame to have seen this crowd sent home disappointed, and yet, through a numbness that overwhelms me as I walk home along West Avenue, I still feel the energy. It was rich and chaotic all night long. The spirit was there, reassuring and reverberating: we are there and we are full of possibilities, hope and, yes, belief. It may still be in the cards this season but if tonight is the seal that extinguishes the Seattle flame for 2021, it will not be for long. Cold comfort, but that’s what’s left when the fire is low.
