Saints and Sinners Won $ 29 Million in Year 1

Skydance Interactive’s The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners grossed over $ 29 million in its first year on sale.

The game, which first released on PC VR on January 23, 2020, also released on PSVR and Oculus Quest within the past year. Skydance says this figure represents sales across all platforms. Notably, however, the team pointed out that the game sold 10 times more on Quest than it did on Rift and Rift S. The Quest version launched just four months ago.

This is easily one of the biggest revenue we have seen for a VR title, albeit over a long period. Lifetime revenue stats for other games are difficult to find – we know that Superhot VR sold over two million units in May 2020 and made over $ 2 million in revenue during the period. Christmas 2019, but we haven’t seen any updated numbers since Quest 2 launched in October 2020. Many developers have reported a dramatic increase in sales during this time frame.

The Walking Dead can undoubtedly attribute much of its success to the quality of its content, offering a comprehensive, multi-hour single-player campaign with deep survival mechanics and an impressive physical system. Not only that, but the game saw first-class ports to PSVR and Quest, although these systems were less powerful than many gaming PCs. Additionally, the game launched alongside Quest 2 itself.

Going forward, Skydance is set to deliver the game’s first free content update, The Trial, to Oculus Quest next month after the PC and PSVR launched last year. Considering today’s numbers, however, it seems likely we’ll hear more from Skydance in the future.
