Sales of the legendary Mass Effect edition were “well above” EA’s expectations

Mass Effect Legendary Edition sales have been “well above” EA’s expectations, the publisher said during Wednesday’s results call investors.

“The launch of Mass Effect Legendary Edition – the remaster of the first three Mass Effect games – has rekindled the excitement of fans around the world, resulting in sales performance well above our expectations,” said Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA.

EA hasn’t shared the exact sales numbers for Mass Effect Legendary Edition, but it has proven to be popular on Steam, reaching the highest player count ever for any Mass Effect or BioWare game. It hit an all-time high of 59,817 players and was the second-highest player count ever on Steam for an EA game, behind Apex Legends.

EA’s other single-player game for 2021, It Takes Two by Josef Fares, has also exceeded EA’s expectations.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition seems to deserve praise, with the remaster of Mass Effect 1 receiving an 8 out of 10, and Mass Effect 2 remaster receives a 9 out of 10.

Despite the success of EA’s solitary single-player games, it is the publisher’s portfolio of multiplayer live services, sports and mobile games that avoided a significant portion of the decline in net profit. EA emphasized that it continues to focus on live service games and develop them as ongoing ecosystems rather than adhere to traditional sales models. The company reported total revenue of $ 1.55 billion, up 6% from a year ago.

It will be interesting to see if EA’s other one-player remaster project, the Dead Space remake, turns out to be successful as well. EA executives have said a new Dead Space is one of the most requested games after the Skate franchise. IGN spoke to the developers at EA Motive about how the horror remake is rebuilt in EA’s Frostbite engine.
