Salma Hayek cuts down on rumors that she married her husband, billionaire François-Henri Pinault, because he is rich. Married since February 14, 2009, the couple just celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary and are parents to a 13-year-old daughter, Valentina.

Speaking on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast on Monday, the 54-year-old actress responded to speculation about her relationship with the Frenchman, CEO of luxury fashion group Kering and overseeing brands such as Gucci, Alexander McQueen and Yves Saint Laurent. Shepard himself admitted that before meeting Pinault he also wondered if their marriage was superficial.

“I was like, oh, OK, she married a rich man, maybe that’s why she married him, I don’t know,” the actor recalls, thinking once. “I meet him and I’m like, this dude is so foxy – oh my gosh trust his eyes he’s so handsome and lovely and I was like, oh, that mother ***** could’ve been broke . It’s a bomb. “

Shepard couldn’t help but gush at Pinault.

“What a nice, funny, generous, kind and warm guy – but beyond that he’s super sexy too,” he told Hayek, who agreed her husband was “the best.” But she added that people who didn’t know her or didn’t see their connection often assumed she was there for her fortune.

“You know the point is in the pictures you can’t begin to guess the magic in him,” the Oscar nominee said. “He made me a much better person and grow up in such a good and healthy way. And you know when I married him, everybody said, ‘Oh, it’s an arranged marriage, she married him for the money. I’m like, ‘yeah, whatever, bitch.’ Think what you want: 15 years together, and we’re strong in love. “

But Hayek says she is “offended” by such speculation.

“I’m like, ‘yeah, whatever,'” she told Shepard and her podcast co-host, Monica Padman, who protested that these assumptions were sexist since Hayek herself is a woman who succeeds with his own money. Although Hayek has acknowledged that some people marry for money, she believes that wealthy men like Pinault are subject to “discrimination” and stereotypes that lead to rumors that they are not worthy of a job. true love.

“We are entering a very interesting conversation”, happiness said the star. “There is also discrimination against rich men. Immediately you think because someone is rich, [they] might not be a good person. Maybe someone materialistic, maybe someone who has no values, maybe someone who is even stupid or who doesn’t deserve it. … To have a lot of money, you did it the wrong way, there’s this whole preconceived idea. “

She felt that too, she admitted.

“And I had that by the way. It was the last thing I wanted – it wasn’t my type at all. And I came up with the preconceptions and he [melted] all away, ”she said of Pinault.

She added that her husband does not fit the stereotype of being “controlling” or “workaholic” who only thinks about money.

“My guy finishes his job no matter how hard it was – and trust me he has a lot of responsibilities – [with a] a big smile on her face, happy to be home, happy to see us and to see the kids, making us laugh, ”she told Shepard and Padman.

“When we go on vacation, he stops completely, he’s in the moment,” she continued. “And so it’s not just an insult to me – I’m not the only one being judged.” Oh, she’s an actress, she’s looking for money. “They can’t begin to imagine what a joy this human being is.”

Hayek went on to suggest that people buy into such stereotypes because it “comforts us to have these archetypes” – which she personally resists.

“Putting things in boxes – I don’t like it, I’m a rebel,” she says.
