SALT LAKE CITY – A little magic will be leaving Salt Lake City soon as it was announced Monday that the City Creek Center Disney Store will close next month.
Following its announcement to close nearly 60 of its retail stores in March, Disney has revealed the list of locations that will close by September 15.
Unfortunately for Disney fans, the downtown Salt Lake City store is on the list.
Disney is shifting its focus from retail to smaller stores inside Target stores and away from the great outdoors in malls.
“Over the past few years, we’ve focused on reaching consumers where they already spend their time, such as expanding Disney shopping stores around the world. We now plan to create a more flexible and interconnected e-commerce experience that gives consumers easy access to unique, high-quality products across all of our franchises, ”said Stephanie Young, President, Consumer Products Games and Publishing in March.
Target says it will open more than 160 Disney stores in its stores before the end of 2021.
