Salt Lake City homosexual records own assault and police search for suspect

The Salt Lake City police are asking the public for help in identifying a man who hit one after asking him if he was gay. The assault is captured in an eight-second video posted on Twitter on Sunday by Sal Trejo and spreads quickly via social media.

The assault took place downtown and the video begins with the suspect asking "Are you gay?

Trejo replies, "Oh, I am."

"Oh, so you're gay."

It is at this moment that the man strikes him with his right hand.

Trejo also issued a statement that after the assault, the man pulled a knife, shouted derogatory things and eventually ran to a car.

"This man is dangerous and must be held responsible for his actions," wrote Trejo.

The Salt Lake City police are investigating and asking for information.

State Senator Derek Kitchen, the only member of the Legislature of Utah openly gay, also addressed social media by posting the video with the following message: "There It is time for the UT legislature to act on hate crime legislation.

State lawmakers have rebuffed repeated efforts to strengthen Utah's watered down law on hate crimes. The most recent version has not yet been heard by a committee.
