Founder of clothing brand Salt Life faces manslaughter charge over death of 18-year-old woman at Florida hotel
JACKSONVILLE, Fla – A founder of clothing brand Salt Life faces a manslaughter charge over the death of an 18-year-old woman at a Florida hotel.
Michael Troy Hutto, 54, was held without bail Sunday at the Duval County Jail in Jacksonville after his arrest in connection with the death of 18-year-old Lora Grace Duncan, whose body was found Thursday at a county hotel in Jacksonville. Palm Beach. She had been shot, police said. Further details have not been released.
Hutto was arrested in his hometown of Jacksonville on Friday, about 450 kilometers from the hotel, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Investigators did not say how they believed Hutto was related to Duncan’s death or whether they had been in a relationship. Duncan was from Lake City, a town 95 kilometers west of Jacksonville.
Hutto and a few friends launched Salt Life in 2003, its brand for boaters, surfers and fishermen who spend time on the ocean. Hutto is credited with coming up with the name.
The company issued a statement saying that Hutto had no involvement with the business since he and his partners sold the business in 2013 for nearly $ 40 million.
Prison records do not show whether Hutto has a lawyer. He will be transferred to Palm Beach County, where he will face an initial court hearing and more details will be released.
