New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has been touted as a potential solution to the Chicago Bears quarterback’s problems. But, following recent reports, perhaps not in the way many expected.

According to Pat Leonard of New York Daily News, the connection between Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and Darnold could prove to be an interesting development in the Russell Wilson trade rumor.

Carroll is said to have “a high opinion” of Darnold, and the Seahawks could end negotiating for him if they decide to deal Wilson with, uh, say an overly desperate Bears team that’s running out of quarterback options- back.

“Keep an eye on Seattle for Darnold,” a source said New York Daily News.

There were reportedly tensions between Wilson and Carroll, which led to business speculation. He’s since warmed up with the Bears, a desperate team for a franchise quarterback, who reportedly threw everything they have at the Seahawks in an attempt to land Wilson.

The only thing that could stop Seattle from pulling the trigger and trading their franchise quarterback is the lack of a return quarterback. Darnold might end up being the answer, especially since he’s someone Carroll holds in high regard.

“I think he’s really talented without a doubt,” Carroll told reporters of Darnold in December. “He has great throws in him. He’s a real quarterback. He sees things. He makes big plays and big throws in difficult situations thanks to his talent. It’s just a matter of time. Sam is going to be a really great QB. He threw a lot of balls in three years. He has a lot of experience. It will pay off in the long run. “

We’ll see if that impacts Seattle’s plans to trade Wilson, potentially to Chicago, where things could certainly heat up with the Bears running out of quarterback options this offseason.
