Sam Darnold: It’s a good feeling to be 2-0

Sam Darnold had a few winning streaks while with the Jets, but none of them meant much.

The Jets won back-to-back wins in their rookie year to tie their record at 3-3, but have lost nine of their last 10 games to finish 4-12. A three-game winning streak in 2019 came after opening the season with a 1-7 record and last year’s two-game winning streak came after the Jets lost their first 13 games of the season, but he didn’t wait that long to rack up several wins with the Panthers.

The Saints’ 26-7 beating on Sunday took Carolina to 2-0 this season and Darnold appeared to be in firm control of the offense. He had 26 of 38 yards for 305 yards, two touchdowns and one interception that head coach Matt Rhule lamented while adding that Darnold had made “big throws in crucial lows.”

The quarterback has said he won’t let the precocious taste for success change anything about his approach in the weeks to come.

“I’m just going to keep doing my job,” Darnold said. “That’s all that worries me. I have always had a lot of confidence; that will never change, just find completions and keep moving the ball around the field. It’s a good feeling.

The Panthers will be on the road for the first time Thursday night to face the Texans and another strong performance from Darnold will continue to make their decision to trade for him a wise one.
