Arkansas football decided to roll the dice in the team’s 52-51 loss to Ole Miss on Saturday, aiming for two points and the win rather than settle for extra time after the Razorbacks found the zone of goals at the end of the rule. And while Sam Pittman’s squad came away empty-handed on the pass attempt to win the game in regulation, the second-year Arkansas head coach said he didn’t regret the move.
According to reporters, Pittman said he had already set his sights on two points and the win long before the Razorbacks scored the touchdown on the play. Pittman is said to have said he liked the play call on the attempt being given the game against the Rebels and the offense just hadn’t converted.
Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson find Warren thompson in the back of the end zone for a nine-yard touchdown pass at the end of time, but the potential 2-point conversion attempt to win failed and Arkansas fell heart-wrenchingly.
Pittman: I told them on this list that if we score with little time to find out, we are aiming for victory. I like the playful appeal. I just haven’t converted it.

The result marked the second straight loss for Arkansas after starting the season 4-0. The team was shutout in Georgia in Week 5.
The offense was abundant Saturday at Oxford. A critical touchdown taken by Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson with 1:22 remaining to be tied, but quarterback Ole Miss Matt Corral find Braylon Sanders just 15 seconds later for a 68-yard touchdown pass that put the Rebels back on top before Arkansas scored in 9 games and 75 yards in the final minute.
All in all, the game featured five draws, six lead changes, very little defense, 103 combined points and over 1,200 total yards of attack between the two teams. With the loss, the Razorbacks drop to 4-2 this season and 1-2 in the SEC game. Ole Miss improves to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Across the field Corral solidified his place near the top of consideration for the Heisman Trophy with a performance of 287 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 94 rushing yards and two touchdowns, averaging 6.3 yards per carry. While he hasn’t generated much hype going into the season when it comes to college football’s most prestigious individual achievement, Corral continues to outperform nearly every other quarterback in America.
Corral drew against Alabama last week and still completed 21 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown and rushed for a touchdown. Of course, those numbers were much better in Saturday’s shootout. While the loss to Alabama was a big blow to Ole Miss’s chances of making a college football playoff contention, that shouldn’t be enough to remove Corral from competition for the Heisman Trophy.

Arkansas is heading home for a date with No.18 Auburn on October 16. Kick-off for this game is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT in Fayetteville.
