Samantha Cerio, gymnast from Auburn, retires after being broken both legs

There will be no triumphant return for the Auburn gymnast who broke both legs during a ground exercise at the NCAA Regional Semifinals … Samantha Cerio says she's retiring from the sport.

Cerio broke both legs while trying to land a double – handed freehand Friday – she was stretched out of the mat with two aerial shots.

Auburn then went on to qualify for the regional finals … but Cero said Friday was "my last night as a gymnast".

Cerio issued a statement saying: "After 18 years, I hang on and leave the chalk behind me".

The Auburn senior said she learned a lot from sport – hard work, humility, integrity and dedication … but finally decided to move on.
