After years of filling its stock apps with ads, the company is finally ending the practice. As of today, Samsung Pay, Weather, and Health have officially stopped serving ads.
Users of the Samsung community forums discovered that the ads had suddenly disappeared from the Samsung Pay app, and a survey by people from TizenHelp unearthed a comment from a Samsung employee that confirms good news. As of today, October 1, Samsung stopped serving ads on Samsung Pay and Samsung Health.
This is the Samsung Health Operations Manager. Please note that the banner at the top of the Samsung Health app will not be provided from October 1.
Samsung has only technically confirmed this change in its home country, but we are also seeing changes in the United States. The company said it will remove the ads earlier this year.
Prior to today, Samsung Pay displayed banner ads on its Pay tab, which is now gone. Samsung still displays a “Featured” section in the app on the “Home” tab which may include offers, but these are not blatant advertisements as shown before.
Samsung Health was also updated, apparently on the server side, to remove an ad banner that was appearing at the top of the app. While this section often featured workout tips, it also promoted products including Samsung smartwatches.
Finally, Samsung Weather also appears to have stopped showing ads in its top banner, with the app now showing only the temperature and forecast at the top of the app. As promised, the Galaxy Themes app also appears to have removed its banner ad.
Notably, forcing these apps to stop seems to force the ads to be removed, just in case they are still live for you.
