Samsung announces two new Galaxy A midrange phones focused on cameras

Samsung has announced two new mid-range Galaxy A Series phones, the A30 and the A50. The phones have been spotted for the first time on the Samsung India website and invitations to a press conference in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata appear to have been sent on February 28. This is a boost from Samsung against the market share it lost in India to Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi, whose cheaper phones and competitive features are increasingly popular in the country.

Cameras are one of the main goals of the A30 and A50. The A50 has three cameras in the back: a main 25 megapixel camera, an ultra-wide 8 megapixel lens (which the phone will smartly recommend you use depending on what you're shooting) and a depth sensor of 5 megapixels. The front panel also features a 25-megapixel camera with a special selfie focus for blurring the backgrounds. The A30 has two cameras on the back – a 16-megapixel main lens and a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens – as well as a 16-megapixel camera at the front.

Both phones have a fingerprint sensor, but while the A50 is on the screen, the A30 is in the back. Samsung's announcement mentions that facial recognition can also unlock the A30, but it is not clear whether the A50 is equipped with it as well.

Samsung claims that the phones are made of "3D Glasstic", a glass and plastic coat rack, and that they will have a 6.4-inch Infinity AMOLED Infinity Edge-to-Edge display. Infinity-U is the term used by Samsung for its notch design, almost identical to the semi-oval notch design of the Essential phone.

Some other details: the Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A30 are equipped with 4000 mAh fast charging batteries. The A30 will come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage or 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, while the A50 will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage , or 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The storage capacity of both computers can be increased to 512 GB via microSD.

Samsung and Xiaomi dominate the Indian market and represent about 60% of the country's mobile phone market. The presence of both companies has increased in India over the past year, but Xiaomi in particular has seen a significant increase, from 18% of the market to 30%. Xiaomi: "We launched devices directly against Xiaomi's wallet and focused on its cameras and imaging capabilities."

Prices and availability are not yet available for the Galaxy A30 or A50.
