Samsung's annual smartphones strategy has been the same for years bring out a new mainstream Galaxy S device in the spring and a more premium Galaxy Note phone in the fall. Now that there are so few hardware and software differences between the two alignments, many speculations have been made about their merger, and a new report by Evan Blass adds more credence to this idea.

Evan Blass, better known as @evleaks, said on Twitter: "Samsung will debate the future Galaxy brand, including eliminating the distinction [between] lines S and Note. Could manifest itself in different ways, possibly [with] a "Galaxy One" instead of an S11. [..] One possibility is simply to merge them into a single first half-handset, essentially an S series with a S-stylus. "Blass added that if the Galaxy Fold worked as well as Samsung hoped, it could replace the range of ratings as Samsung's flagship premium last year.

The merger of the Galaxy S and Note lines would be a big change for Samsung, but that makes sense. The Note series looks more and more like the Galaxy S lineup, leaving aside the S-Pen and a handful of proprietary software features (such as DeX on Mac / Windows) as the only differentiators. Samsung even released a smaller Note10 this year, so a Galaxy S phone with an S-Pen would not really be a change.
