Samsung Galaxy Fold: What has changed for the version you can buy?

Samsung announced that the Galaxy Fold would finally be available this week and the company made some changes to the foldable phone for its second full public launch attempt.

In April 2019, a specialist press got its hands on the first samples of the Galaxy Fold and – after publishing a handful of blatant flaws – less than a week later, Samsung had delayed the release of its phone to the forefront technology, deciding that he is not ready for the market.

The company has resumed development to solve the problems and release a second refined version of the handset, which is the device ready to be marketed. We've tried it at IFA 2019 and here are all the changes brought by Samsung to its new Galaxy Fold.

Change one: you can not remove the screen protector

You may remember that one of the big problems of the original Galaxy Fold was the thin plastic screen protector, which had been – uninformed from the press – integrated to the design of the phone. This remains the case on the new Fold, but it is no longer very easy to remove.

Despite the warnings in the box when you open the Galaxy Fold that asked you not to remove the screen protector, some reviewers with the device did exactly that and damaged their handset during the process.

Samsung has taken his camera and found a way to make sure you can not remove the screen protector. This is the lip that you can see in the photo above, which bypasses the outside of the phone.

This is a small edge on the outside of the screen and now holds the screen protector so that you can not remove it from the first day. In fact, it means that you can not even say that there is a screen protector on the device.

Change two: it's more durable than ever

It's the greatest refinement, but it's not the only one. Many minor but important changes have been made to the Galaxy Fold for proper publication, and many relate to the durability of the phone.

For a device that folds, you want it to be as durable as possible. The company has added caps at the top and bottom of the hinge so that dirt and dust do not settle in this important part of the folded phone several times a day.

Samsung has also added metal elements under the screen to give the device a more robust feel. This improves stiffness when it is locked in tablet form, which makes it feel like a more rugged device.

Overall, many minor improvements have been made here to improve the durability of the device, but as long as it's not in the hands of people, we will not really know if these improvements worked well.

Change three: It now comes with 5G

According to CNET, it does not appear that the United States will get the 5G version of the phone, and it is unclear whether Australia will be able to buy the 4G or 5G model, but for those in the UK, you will only be able to buy the 5G variant of the phone.

So it makes sense to include the burgeoning Internet technology on your device because you are already spending a lot of money on your phone, so you want it to be in the future.

We will not fail to test the 5G variant of the phone once we have it in the hands of the next few weeks. Those in the UK can buy the phone from September 18th, which is exclusive to EE.

We do not yet know exactly when Samsung will bring the device to the United States and Australia.
