My Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ has arrived today and I am up and running. I can already see that I've made the right choice by upgrading the smaller Note 10: The larger size of the screen makes all the difference.
The same goes for the complete configuration of the phone: with the original Note 10, smaller, I knew almost immediately that I would not keep it, so I did not care to customize it significantly, nor to install most software. the apps I usually use. This time, however, I did both. And although many customizations are coming and other application installations are installed, I'm sure it's more like my own device.
Of course, the key to this customization is the configuration of the Note 10+ as my main handset on Google Fi. This was not a problem: I just inserted the Google Fi SIM in the Note 10+, restart, install the Google Fi app and activate my account. No problem at all.
The only real problem I will encounter in the short term is that the case did not arrive with the phone. This will apparently come next week, but I hope it will be sooner than that. I can simply try to buy a duplicate locally, then send back the one sent by Samsung. We will see.
After installing and configuring all the most frequently used apps, I tried the Samsung Dex for Windows app again. As you may remember, the performance of this application was too slow for regular use with the original 10. And you never know: perhaps a combination of software enhancements made since when and the additional RAM of this new phone (12 GB versus 8 GB) would make a difference.
And … maybe so. Dex is still a little behind and I certainly would not want to use Microsoft Word in this environment to write a complete article. But it worked, and it was even somewhat usable in small doses. This makes me want to try again a direct connection with Dex, and I will do it.
Regarding the phone itself, as stated before, I ordered an unlocked 256GB configuration in Aura Blue because my first choice, Aura Glow, was not available at the time . (This is not important because it will be covered in one case as soon as possible.) Like its predecessor, it's a bit difficult to capture the color of the camera with a camera, but it's a very blue deep, almost purple. The S-Pen provided is very purple and is, I think, a different color from the version provided with my previous note 10.
In addition, unlike the original Note 10, the Note 10+ supports microSD storage expansion, up to an additional 1 TB. I will never need this feature, but you can add a microSD card to the same drawer that contains the SIM card.
The Note 10+ also supports fast charging up to 45 watts, but the supplied fast charger is only 25 watts and corresponds, I think, to the same device as that of his little brother. I doubt I need the faster charger, which costs $ 50, but I keep an eye on the battery life and charging time and I will take it into account. Anyway, I'm pretty sure the Note 10+ has the biggest battery I've ever used in a phone, at 4,300 mAh; in comparison, the Huawei P30 Pro provides a battery of 4200 mAh and the unit of OnePlus 7 Pro is 4200 mAh.
(You will also find in the box a pair of wired headphones and a USB-C-to-USB-A adapter, but no USB-C-to-headphone adapter.)
In addition to using the phone normally, I will spend time exploring Samsung applications and services, Microsoft integration elements and, of course, the camera system. So, I should have more soon.
And yes, I will keep this one. At an incredible $ 1100, it's the most expensive smartphone I've ever bought. But that's before I take into account the brilliant $ 600 resumption of the Pixel 3 XL (for which I paid $ 480). Yet $ 980 is … yeah. Expensive. But also an excellent new entry into the ecosystem of the galaxy. So we'll see how it goes.
