Last week, the alleged renders of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra unveiled a bold new look for the phone, in stark contrast to the more conservative design changes expected by the Standard and Plus models. It appeared to be the Samsung Galaxy Note 22 except the name, with a more stylish Note 20 Ultra design.
Now reliable leak Ice universe backed it all up with alleged case renders that appear to match those of the phone, right down to cutouts for the S Pen dock and the particular P-shaped camera array.
As OnLeak’s Renderings before, IceUniverse’s renderings – which we can’t say for sure are accurate – have much more in common with the curved look of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra than the Galaxy S21.
Breaking: Protective phone case maker Samsung started making S22 series protective cases. We can see that the camera area is exactly like our rendered drawing, but unfortunately it just knows the shape of that area, whether it’s “P” or “11”, and it doesn’t know it. . pic.twitter.com/yYtZF8lZXlSeptember 30, 2021
That said, the odd array of cameras may actually be a cut-out version of the S21 Ultra’s hump, with a similar lens layout in a more rectangular frame:
What’s in a name?
With the other two S22 handsets looking pretty much unchanged from this year’s models, the big question is whether they actually belong to the same family. Could Samsung relaunch the Note brand and withdraw the “S Ultra”?
This is the leaker’s point of view chunvn8888 on Twitter, who writes that the Samsung Galaxy S22 will in fact be joined by the S22 Pro and Note 22 Ultra.
Oops, OnLeaks confirmed the name of the S22 Pro, so I guess I’ll do the rest: – S22 + = S22 Pro- S22 Ultra = Note22 UltraYep, you heard that right. S22 Ultra could actually be called Note22 Ultra! (A little warning below) pic.twitter.com/ivqDDFat2QSeptember 25, 2021
In a follow-up tweet, the official added that the decision is not set in stone, saying the possibility had only been discussed recently.
Still, it would certainly make sense. The Note has a loyal fan base, and there’s no denying that Samsung offering three varieties of Galaxy S, two types of Galaxy Note, and two different foldables was a bit of a stretch.
By merging the S and Note handsets into a single launch, Samsung’s flagship lineup would feel a little less crowded and, potentially, a little less confusing too. While that would leave S Pen fans on a budget with no luck, unless Samsung also has another Note Lite up its sleeve.
But whatever its name, it seems there is a chance that Note fans who lobbied Samsung with a seemingly doomed petition to revive the handset could get what they wanted after all. And with a revelation maybe before the end of the year, maybe sooner than even the most optimistic Note fan could have hoped.
