Rumors suggest that Samsung will launch two new smartwatches later this summer: the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Active.
While the official names of the devices are unconfirmed, recently released renderings have revealed Samsung’s possible next-generation smartwatch strategy. Instead of launching one model at a time as has been the case in recent years, customers might have a number of options to choose from.
We expect to see both follow-ups to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2, two of the best smartwatches currently available. We also expect future watches to run the new Unified Wear OS software, as well as One Watch UI, Samsung’s approach to improving integration within its product ecosystem.

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and Galaxy Watch 4 Active don’t have an official release date, but Samsung has confirmed that its next smartwatch launch will take place at an Unpacked event “later this summer”.
The Galaxy Watch 3 starts at $ 399 for the 41mm mode and $ 429 for the 45mm model. You can pay an additional $ 50 for LTE. Considering that the Galaxy Watch 3 brought a price increase over the original Samsung Galaxy Watch, we don’t expect Samsung to increase the cost of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic again.

The design will likely differentiate the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic from the Galaxy Watch 4 Active. While we expect the Classic model to retain the iconic rotating bezel from the Galaxy Watch, we believe the Active version will have a slimmer case for a more user-friendly fit.
Beyond the bezel and thickness, it looks like both smartwatches will receive similar design changes from the previous models. Android titles has released several alleged images of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, when it was supposed to Galaxy Watch 4 Active renderings surfaced shortly before.
If the pictures are correct, the Classic and Active models will feature a redesigned bezel that allows for a seamless transition from the smartwatch chassis to the straps. The pair of crown buttons also appear to sport a uniform, oblong shape.
We believe that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic vs Galaxy Watch 4 Active will also come with different straps. The Classic version will likely get leather straps, while the Active version will stick with a more sweat-resistant silicone.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic vs Galaxy Watch 4 Active: Specifications
It has been confirmed to Google I / O that the Galaxy Watch 4 would run WearOS, rather than Tizen. This means that Galaxy Watch 4 owners will have access to the plethora of apps, such as the Google Play store, Google Pay, Google Maps – a weakness of Tizen for a long time. Better yet, some Samsung-specific tools will be added to WearOS, thanks to One Watch UI.
The One Watch UI platform promises to better extend Samsung’s smartphone apps, tools and settings to the user’s wrists. From what the company has shown so far, it looks like a pretty convincing watchOS 8 rival.
We’re less sure what new health features the latest Galaxy Watch line will bring. It was thought that the next Galaxy Watch would get blood sugar monitoring, but this rumor has since been hushed up. Instead, smartwatches could be the first to measure body composition. According to the leaker Max Weinbach, the Galaxy Watch 4 will feature a bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) sensor to estimate the percentage of body fat.
Either way, both Galaxy Watch 4 models are expected to get some upgrades. It could rely on storage to match the Apple Watch’s big storage offerings, plus a faster processor. The Active version can also get drop detection, VO2 max readings and other tools that come with the Galaxy Watch 3.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic vs Galaxy Watch 4 Active: Battery life
We’re very interested to see how Samsung manages the battery life of the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and Galaxy Watch 4 Active.
It would be great if the next Galaxy Watch Classic got some battery life back. Based on our usage, we found that the Galaxy Watch 3 lasted just over a day with always-on display and frequent activity tracking. the Fitbit sense, in comparison, lasts six epic days.
Galaxy Watch Active 2 lasts over 60 hours, depending on exercise and display. Samsung could maintain the endurance of the Active 2, or it could shorten it like it did the battery life of the Galaxy Watch 3 compared to the first Galaxy Watch. However, it would be difficult to justify drastically different battery life estimates for two smartwatches released together.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic vs. Galaxy Watch 4 Active: Outlook
Buyers may soon find themselves choosing between the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and the Galaxy Watch 4 Active. We can’t say for sure how the two models will differ, but based on our experience with the company’s smartwatches, we’re confident that price and design will be deciding factors.
It’s possible that the two Samsung models reflect the relationship between the Apple Watch 6 and the Apple Watch SE, both of which are capable activity trackers with similar battery life and important safety features, but the flagship providing some exclusive tools.
