Samsung launched One UI 3.1 with its Galaxy S21 series, but recently made a commitment to bring it to other Galaxy devices, including the Z Fold2. While the feature set is broadly similar across all devices, the foldable phone receives a few more tweaks that cater to its unique form factor.

The first improvements are in multitasking – welcome additions to make the most of the tablet-sized internal screen. It will now be possible to return directly to up to three previously opened multi-active windows via the recent applications menu on the main screen and up to two on the cover screen. There’s also a new way to launch multi-active windows – just long press, drag and drop a notification.

Accessibility has also been improved in the Flex mode of the camera app; the position of the camera controls is now adjustable. The preview window also benefits from delete and share buttons, making it easy to manage photos and videos.

Plus, the notifications in the quick panel are categorized, and the weather widgets on the cover and main screens sync (a bit absurd that they weren’t already). There are also a few visual UI tweaks that include a redesigned vertical volume slider, updated light and dark themes, and a slightly updated video call interface.

The update is already being rolled out. If you haven’t received it already, be sure to manually check it in Settings> About device> Software update. Samsung makes no mention of the OG Fold, so these features may not reflect on it.
