Samsung sells a few rugged Android devices under its “ Active ” brand, but it’s been more than three years since the company released a new rugged tablet. Fortunately, companies looking for rugged devices now have a new model to choose from: the Galaxy Tab Active3.

The latest Tab Active model comes with 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, S Pen support and Android 7.1. Samsung’s replacement has a nearly identical design (hello, the Galaxy S7’s navigation buttons!), Which Samsung says should keep existing accessories compatible, as well as the same IP68 water / dust resistance. and MIL-STD-810 certified construction. Most of the improvements are inside: more storage, more RAM, support for Wi-Fi 6, bigger battery, newer software, etc.

The Galaxy Tab Active3 supports wireless DeX, as well as a few other features mostly useful in corporate settings – “ battery-less mode ” can keep the tablet powered on only from the wall, and “ Knox Capture ” turns the tablet into a barcode reader. It ships with Android 10, but Samsung says an update to Android 11 will be released soon, and the company promises “up to three generations of Android operating system upgrades.” It is not clear if the Android 11 update counts as one of these generations.

Samsung primarily sells the Active3 for business use, with a price starting at $ 489.99 for the 64GB Wi-Fi model or $ 509.99 for the 128GB version. Carrier-unlocked LTE variants are also available. available for $ 589.99 (64GB) or $ 609.99 (128GB). You can also purchase the tablet directly from Samsung’s website, but only 64GB versions are available.
