Whether it's facial recognition or fingerprint sensor technology, speed is what matters most to smartphone users when unlocking their devices. That said, the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor of the new Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphones left a lot to be desired.
Integrated with the screen itself, the fingerprint sensor, although very cool, was faced very early with all kinds of problems. Aside from the efforts to deceive the sensor, users complained that the functionality was too often unreliable. In addition, even when the apparatus has accurately recognized an authorized user, the unlocking speed has been judged extremely slow.
In order to address these basic usability issues, Samsung today launched a software update that promises to make the S10 fingerprint sensor technology more reliable, faster and, in short, usable. .
The update is rather small – it weighs just 6.9 MB – and, according to early reports from S10 users, significantly improves the speed and reliability of the fingerprint sensor.
Of course, the update will probably not do anything to thwart the malicious efforts to deceive the fingerprint sensor. If you remember, a few days ago, someone managed to use a 3D printer to create a fake fingerprint and access an S10 device. The whole process is explained here, but to be brief, a user took a high quality photo of his fingerprint in a wineglass, put it in Photoshop, and then used some printing software 3D who spit out a pretty good copy only 13 minutes flat.
