Material You is the new design language that Google introduced with Android 12. The company behind Android describes it as a whole new way of thinking about design. He takes a hyper-personalized approach to personalization.

Samsung today released the beta version of One UI 4.0. The latest version of its Android 12 based firmware now brings Material You color themes to supported devices. It’s great to see that one of Android 12’s greatest features has found its way onto Samsung devices.

Material You opens up a new world of personalization

The idea behind Material You is to allow users to create designs that are unique to them. Users effectively become co-creators. They can use any wallpaper to create unique material color palettes that are applied system-wide as well as native and third-party applications.

This feature was missing in the first beta of One UI 4.0 but we just found it in the beta of One UI 4.0. It allows you to choose a theme according to the colors of your wallpaper. As you might expect, there are still a few bugs in this feature.

Sometimes the custom theme is applied right after you select it. Several times we had to restart the device for the changes to take effect. This is not a reason to be concerned. These bugs will be fixed in future releases.

Samsung has just started rolling out the second beta firmware. It will soon be available to all users participating in the beta program.
