Samsung halted the rollout of its Beta One UI 3.0 update last week after beta testers found the update to be so buggy that it caused severe battery drain on handsets running the software. According to SamMobile, Samsung resumed earlier today releasing the beta of One UI 3.0 for the LTE and 5G variants of the Galaxy Z Flip according to a post on the Samsung Members app. Later this week, we should see Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Z Fold 2 users having the option to sign up for the beta.
One UI 3.0 beta is Samsung’s first Android 11-based mobile operating system. It will likely be the same software used to drive Sammy’s next series of flagship models, the Galaxy S21 line. The latter will be unveiled and released in January and it is likely that the new series will be released with One UI 3.0 installed. The fact that the software deployment was halted for a brief period of time surprised many who had thought the issue had to be serious for the manufacturer to stop the deployment the way it did.
Multi-Active Window feature improves multitasking on One UI 3.0 interface
The One UI interface was first launched in November 2018 and with it Samsung has moved a lot of moving parts to the bottom of the screen. This way, as the screens got bigger and bigger, users no longer had to engage in digital gymnastics trying to reach a button at the top of the screen.
Beta testing of One UI 3.0 has only resumed in South Korea so far, which shouldn’t be taken as a clue as to where and when Samsung might launch the final release of One UI 3.0. Let this be a reminder of why software updates are first tested through a beta before being released to the general public. Among the changes, One UI 3.0 adds improvements to the Quick Panel allowing users to seamlessly switch between music and videos. The notification panel will display messages from multiple apps in one place, and the multi-active window improves multitasking by dividing the screen into halves and thirds. Applications can be resized and mixed.
Samsung has made its own reshuffle. Apparently, the Galaxy Note line is gone and we could see the Galaxy S21 line hit the market a little earlier than usual in 2021.
