Another Samsung Unpacked event will take place on March 17 at 10 a.m. EDT, and no, we’re not expecting another flagship phone. Instead, rumors suggest the brand will unveil the mid-range Samsung Galaxy A72 phone at the digital event, which will air on the Samsung press room and on the official YouTube page.
The ‘mid-range’ could under-sell the A72: rumors suggest it will be a powerful device that is expected to inherit even more flagship phones than its predecessor, including the famous “Space Zoom” capable of 30x magnification. That’s impressive considering the Galaxy A71 didn’t even have a telephoto lens.
Samsung hasn’t bluntly said that the A72 will be the product revealed – in fact, its invitation to the next Unpacked comes in very little detail. But there are hints that the A72 will be in the center – namely, the name of the event (“ Samsung’s Galaxy Awesome Unpacked ”) and the capitalization prominently visible in the one-line description on the announcement message: “Join us on March 17th for the Galaxy Awesome Unpacked to find out how Samsung Electronics is bringing Awesome to everyone.”
Judging by the rumors, the A72 would be great to see revealed.
Mid-range A72, key advantages
Apart Spatial zoom, these flagship benefits rumored to come on the A72 include specs upgrades such as 90Hz refresh rate for 6.7 inch Full HD AMOLED display (2400 x 1080) with in-display fingerprint sensor, up to 256GB storage, 5000mAh battery and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
This is in addition to the legacy specs from the A71 which are still respectable in 2021: a 32MP selfie camera and a quad rear camera with a 64MP primary shooter, a 12MP 123 degree FoV ultra-wide camera, a 5MP macro and a telephoto lens. 8MP. The only downside we heard? It won’t have 5G – at least initially, or some areas will only get a 4G LTE version. We will have to wait until March 17 unboxed to know the truth.
