If it was not clear now, foldable phones are finally part of things this year. It's a kind of expensive thing that you can not touch the prototype. Samsung and Huawei unveiled two foldable flagship phones last week, the Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, respectively. But it's the Mate X that everyone is talking about, and that's because the Huawei phone looks a lot more like the future than the Galaxy Fold. The Mate X seems to be a lot thinner than the Galaxy Fold, especially when you fold it, and has a much larger foldable screen that stays outside. The Galaxy Fold folds inward like a book and seems to be much thicker beside the fold. There is a reason for this to happen.
At his press conference Sunday, Huawei has made the Samsung sun by unveiling the Mate X, comparing the phone's screen to the Galaxy Fold. No matter how you fold it, the winner was clearly the Mate X. The Huawei phone has a larger tablet screen, with much thinner glasses than the Galaxy Fold. Even when it is folded, the dual-screen design of the Mate X offers more screen space than the Galaxy Fold. But Samsung is also ready to punch Huawei, saying the Mate X's design is the easiest way to design foldable handsets.

We considered a lot of options. There are things like, for example, if you want to put a case, usability, durability, and we think having the screen inside is the best way to protect it. Samsung's message is pretty clear: the Galaxy Fold should be more durable and sophisticated to design than the Mate X and any other phone that folds outward. That may well be the case, but my eyes keep telling me that the Mate X is the nicest phone at this year's Mobile World Congress.
I agree that protecting the screen from foldable phones like the Mate X will be a challenge, especially if we consider the strangeness of these cases (see video above). As you can see, Huawei's concept of a protective case on a stage blocks half of the screen, which means you'll have to use the phone every time you want to use it as a tablet, then put it back in place. In my experience with traditional phones, there are drops when you take the phone out of a case or put it back in place.
That said, neither the Galaxy Fold nor the Mate X can be touched at the MWC, and we have not yet seen a case of protection in the wild.
